Seoul, March 28, 2025 – The 2025 Korea Travel Fair (내나라여행박람회) recently hosted the AI Travel Conference, where I had the privilege of speaking on the topic: “How AI is Changing Travel Experiences.” The session explored how artificial intelligence is shaping global travel consumption and, more specifically, how Korean travelers are embracing these innovations.

The Korean Travel Consumer: AI-Driven, Independent, and Digital-First

South Korea has one of the world’s most digitally connected populations, and this is evident in the way Korean travelers plan and experience their trips. Key trends among Korean independent travelers (FITs) include:

✅ Heavy reliance on AI-powered travel planning tools (e.g., TripAdvisor AI, OTA chatbots)
✅ Strong preference for mobile-first, app-based travel services
✅ High engagement with AI-generated travel content for inspiration and trip reviews
✅ Increasing adoption of AI-driven translation and navigation services for seamless global travel

As AI continues to personalize and streamline travel experiences, Korean travelers are at the forefront of leveraging these technologies to create highly customized itineraries.

Key Takeaways from the AI Travel Conference

During my presentation, I highlighted four key phases of travel where AI is making a significant impact:

1️⃣ Inspiration & Planning: AI-driven platforms like TripAdvisor’s AI Planner are transforming how travelers discover destinations and build itineraries.
2️⃣ Booking & Reservations: AI-powered services such as Layla (an AI travel chatbot) and imean.AI (a dynamic airfare search tool) are redefining the booking experience by providing highly personalized travel recommendations.
3️⃣ On-Site Experiences: AI-powered audio guides, such as Google’s Talking Tours, are replacing traditional tour guides, offering interactive, real-time storytelling.
4️⃣ Post-Trip Content Creation: AI-driven video editing tools, like Steve AI, are enabling travelers to effortlessly create and share high-quality travel content.

With Korean travelers ranking among the most tech-savvy and AI-receptive audiences, tourism boards, travel brands, and hospitality businesses need to adapt their marketing and service strategies to stay relevant in this market.
